what is microneedling
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment that can be customized to treat and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and pigmentation at our clinic in St. Albert.
The treatment triggers our skin to produce a boost of collagen and elastin resulting in a smoother and healthier complexion.
how it works
Our microneedling treatment uses the SkinPen® Precision System, a Class II, FDA cleared microneedling device, engineered and manufactured in the US and approved by Health Canada.
The SkinPen® Precision device works by first promoting inflammation due to micro-injuries to the skin in order to stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process and increased blood flow to the area.
Next, in the proliferation phase, the micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors allowing a boost of collagen and elastin fibers. Finally, remodeling begins to occur. The collagen in the new regenerated tissue is replaced with stronger collagen, allowing a tightening effect on the skin and resulting in healthy, supple skin.

This treatment is suitable for all ages and skin types as well as many conditions. Anti aging, uneven tone, textural concerns can all be addressed and effectively improved. Minimal downtime and side effects with little healing time make this treatment desirable for many busy schedules.
Collagen induction is best seen with a series of 3 treatments performed every 4-6 weeks. Series are paired with custom Vivier Pharma skincare for optimal results. Additional treatments to maintain results may be necessary.

what to expect
You can expect to have a minimum of 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart (recommended for optimal results) and each one taking an average of 30-60 minutes per area. We offer a topical numbing cream which is applied in the clinic 30 minutes before your microneedling procedure to help minimize any discomfort.
During post-treatment, you will start to see full results anywhere from 3-6 months. Post treatment includes:
Mild to moderate redness (erythema)
Mild swelling (edema)
Some pinpoint bleeding can be normal
Over the next 24hrs patients generally report the area treated feeling warm, tight, dry or itchy. A specialized gel - non-cytotoxic hydrogel - formulated for patient comfort is included post-treatment.
