Fraxel Laser Resurfacing
what is fraxel laser resurfacing
The Fraxel 1550 nm Restore laser is a non-ablative, fractional skin resurfacing treatment used to address deeper skin concerns. It works by targeting the dermis to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, while leaving the skin's outer layer intact for a faster healing process.
Fraxel Restore treatment can:
Acne and surgical scars: It helps to smooth and minimize the appearance of various types of scarring.
Fine lines and Wrinkles: The treatment can improve the appearance of fine lines and deeper wrinkles, particularly around the eyes (periorbital wrinkles).
Actinic keratosis (AK): It is an FDA-approved treatment for this common pre-cancerous skin condition.
Skin texture: It can smooth and refine the skin's surface, reduce pore size, and improve the overall skin tone.
Rejuvenate your face, neck, chest, and hands.
how it works
Fraxel® Laser treatment uses a deep 1550 nm wavelength to create thousands of microscopic thermal zones within the underlying skin layer (the dermis) while leaving the skin’s surface layer (the epidermis) intact. The tissue surrounding the columns of vaporized tissue is left healthy and unaffected but stimulated to repair resulting in collagen production. This innovative approach allows us to treat a very small fraction of skin at a time, so the skin heals much faster than if the entire area were treated at once.
On the skin's surface, the laser energy eliminates old, sun-damaged, and pigmented cells, penetrating deep into the dermis. This stimulates increased collagen growth. The body's natural healing process creates new healthy tissue to replace the microscopic zones eradicated by the laser.
Since approximately 20-25% of the skin's surface area is treated at one time during each treatment, it is recommended to receive 3-6 treatments every 4-8 weeks to achieve desired and optimal results.
why this treatment?
Our Fraxel® Laser treatments result in immediate improvement in overall rejuvenation of the face, neck, chest, and hands in comparison to other resurfacing procedures that require longer healing and downtime.

what to expect
Please arrive on time for your appointment and allow yourself to be in office for approximately 2 hours. Come product and make-up free, especially if you are receiving a facial treatment. A topical numbing cream and optional local anesthetic will be provided prior to the treatment 30-60 minutes before your laser treatment. Customized settings will be chosen based on your concerns and allotted cosmetic downtime. Cooling is provided with our Zimmer air cooling system to alleviate thermal discomfort for the duration of your treatment.
Sensation is often compared to a prickly sunburn. Afterwards, expect redness and swelling, especially noticeable the morning after treatment. This lasts for approximately 24-72 hours, however, side effects vary depending on treatment strength and your individual healing process. Avoid scheduling this treatment within two weeks of any major event where your appearance is a concern.
Once redness and swelling have dissipated the skin takes on what we call a “bronzing” phase that results in a sandpaper appearance and texture. This damaged skin will exfoliate off in patches over the next 7-14 days. Acne and cold sore flares can occur. Please inform your provider if prone and take proper medications before and after your appointment.
